DeNeal and I attended Imaging USA in Tampa, a photographers convention and trade show. While there I came across a great deal on a very expensive lens. I’m pretty sure I heard it call out my name…so I purchased it. This lens allows me to photograph where there is little or no light. My first assignment was the Watoto African Childrens Choir. I shot the entire event without a flash. Watoto is an orphanage in Uganda where all of the kids’ parents were either killed by war or AIDS. Watoto gives them food and a place to sleep where they would have gone hungry and slept on the streets. They give them education at their school where most do not go to school, and they give them hope where hope is scarce. It was a very moving event to hear these kids’ stories. We cannot change the whole world, but we can change the world for one person at a time. Please check out their website and see the amazing stories and work they are doing.

I hope to go there this September as a photojournalist, to tell these stories through the camera. Visit our website to view some of the images I took.
